McCreary Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington has announced the hiring of Allen McCreary as the program's new assistant coach.

McCreary comes to ASU after two seasons as head coach at Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif., where he compiled a 24-31 overall record, 21-7 in the Cal-Pac Conference. He guided the Hawks to a 12-3 league record in 2007, earned a share of the conference title and placed 10 of his players on the all-conference team, earning the Cal-Pac Conference Coach of the Year honor.

"I am very excited to have Allen on the staff," Waddington said. "He is a proven winner and that is evident by being named coach of the year in a very competetive college conference and high school area."

Prior to his arrival at Holy Names, McCreary was the assistant coach at Merced Junior College in Merced, Calif., in 2005 and the head coach at Hughson High School in Hughson, Calif., from 1999-2004. During his stay at Hughson, he compiled a 136-40 overall record and directed the Huskies to six-straight playoff appearances. In 2001 McCreary led HHS to the league championship and was named Coach of the Year.

"Allen has been able to recognize great talent and mesh that talent together for a common goal," Waddington said. "I can't wait for him to be at my side as we return Angelo State to one of the elite programs in the Lone Star Conference."
