Key Named to CPL All-Star Squad

Angelo State pitcher Joe Key has been named to the Coastal Plains League National All-Star squad the league announced Wednesday afternoon.

Key, who set the ASU record for saves in a season with eight in 2008, sports a 4-1 record with 38 strikeouts and nine walks for the Edenton Steamers.  His 0.79 ERA leads the league and helped the Steamers to the first-half division title of the North Division.

Key finished the 2008 campaign at ASU with a 4-3 record, a 4.36 ERA, 55 strikeouts and 19 walks to go along with his eight saves as the Rams ended the year with a 39-19 over record while qualifying for the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament for the third-straight season.

The Coastal Plains League All-Star game will be held on Tuesday, July 22, in Asheville, N.C., at McCrary Park.  The CPL is a 14-team, collegiate wooden-bat, summer league with teams in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
