No Playoffs For Rambelles

For the first time in six seasons, the Angelo State women's soccer team will not make a trip to the postseason thanks to a 2-1 season-ending loss to West Texas A&M Sunday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Field.

The Rambelles (10-7-3, 4-4-2 LSC) got off to the best start in school history but ended the season on a five-game winless streak, including losses in their last three games, to snap a five-year string of LSC Tournament appearances. The Lady Buffs ended the regular season with a 14-3-1 overall mark (8-2 LSC), capturing the LSC regular-season crown with Sunday's win and will now host the six-team league tournament next weekend in Canyon.

WTAMU took an early lead, grabbing a quick 1-0 advantage just 51 seconds in the contest on header by Miriam Dominguez. The Rambelles countered in the 10th minute on junior Skylar Searles' fourth goal of the season, a header off of a Christy Knaub corner kick.  The Lady Buffs, however, picked up the game-winner in the 41st minute on an unassisted tally by Adi Stein from 30 yards out.

The Lady Buffs out-shot ASU, 16-10, on the afternoon, including a by a 10-4 difference in the second half. WTAMU had eight shots on goals compared to just five by the Rambelles.

ASU sophomore Melanie Peterson (4-2-2) picked up the loss in goal giving up two goals and collecting a season-best six saves.

Five members of the ASU squad closed out their careers on Sunday. Defenders Brittany Tollison, Amber Korb and Marianne Glutz, Knaub at midfield and forward Lauren Moore all suited out for the last time.  The quintet was recognized in a pre-game ceremony.

The 2008 season came to a close with the Rambelles' fifth-ever 10-win season and the squad set a school record with nine shutouts.
