Soccer Picked Sixth in LSC

The Angelo State women's soccer team has been picked to finish sixth in the Lone Star Conference according the league's preseason poll released Thursday.

The Rambelles garnered 159 points in the league's poll per the tally of the league's coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.

West Texas A&M collected 14 of 28 first-place votes for the top nod with 286 points in the poll. Texas A&M-Commerce was a close second with 11 first-place votes for 275 points while Central Oklahoma was third with the remaining three first-place votes and 247 points.

Midwestern State was picked fourth with 240 points with Abilene Christian just ahead of the Rambelles in fifth place with 191 points. Northeastern State was seventh with 134 points, Texas Woman's eighth with 133 points, Eastern New Mexico ninth with 86 points, East Central 10th with 64 points and Southwestern Oklahoma 11th with 33 points.

A&M-Commerce's Meagan Lasley was tabbed the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while UCO's Alli Miller picked Defensive Player of the Year honors. ACU's Crissy Lawson was named the league's top goalkeeper in the preseason.

The Rambelles are coming off another 10-win season, but just missed the LSC Tournament last fall, finishing seventh. The ASU soccer program opens the 2009 season on the road, facing Regis (Colo.) on Friday, Aug. 28, and Metro State (Colo.) on Saturday, Aug. 30, both in Denver, Colo.  The Rambelles will host the ASU/Golden Corral Invitational the following the weekend to open the home portion of the schedule.  ASU will face Missouri Western at 5 p.m. Friday, Sat. 4, and will close out the event against Emporia State at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sat. 6.
