Travis McCorkle

Travis McCorkle is in his second season at the helm of the Angelo State soccer program. He is the fourth head coach since the program's inception in 1995.

In 2008, McCorkle led the Rambelles to just their fifth-ever 10-win season. They finished 10-7-3, missing out on the Lone Star Conference playoffs by one spot. One ASU player made the all-LSC second team and four received honorable mention.

"We had a very positive start to the season," McCorkle said. "Thirteen of our 26 players were newcomers, including 12 freshmen, and we were still able to finish the year with 10 wins. That is a testament to the work and leadership of our team."

A former Rambelles assistant coach, McCorkle returned to ASU after spending five seasons as the head coach at LSC rival Eastern New Mexico University. He posted a 40-46-4 overall record with the Zias after starting the program from scratch in 2003.

With just six months of prep time, McCorkle's inaugural Zias squad went 3-12 in 2003. But, over the next four seasons, his teams posted winning records every year, going a combined 37-34-4. That included a 10-win season in 2005 and a LSC Tournament appearance in 2006. McCorkle also started the ENMU men's program in 2004, then handed it over to his assistant coach after the first season.

While at ENMU, McCorkle coached 13 All-LSC players and 29 Academic All-LSC honorees. Additionally, his teams were honored with National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards each of his five seasons.

Before heading to ENMU, McCorkle served as an assistant coach for the Rambelles from 2001-02 under former head coach Tom Brown.

Prior to his first stint at ASU, McCorkle supervised the Grand Junction (Colo.) Soccer Club, spending more than six years as director of coaching and player development. During that time, he oversaw more than 1,200 players and was responsible for the overall philosophy of the club.

At the high school level, McCorkle served as a coach of both the girls' (1989-94) and boys' (1990-94) soccer teams at Fruita Monument High School in Fruita, Colo. He coached the girls' squad to four conference titles and five state playoff appearances, while his boys' team claimed one conference crown and made two trips to the state playoffs.

McCorkle has held a National Class "A" Coaching License since 1995 and earned a Youth Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation in 1997. He also holds an Advanced National Coaching License from the NSCAA. He has served as a head coach in the New Mexico Olympic Development Program (ODP) since 2006 and was on the Colorado ODP coaching staff from 1992-2001. He has been a member of the U.S. Soccer Coaches Organization since 1993 and the NSCAA since 1995.

As a player, McCorkle founded, coached and played for the Mesa State College club team from 1987-91 and was named team MVP for the 1987-88 seasons. He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Mesa State in 1994 and his master's degree in sport administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 2001.
