McCorkle Completes Staff

First-year Angelo State women's soccer Travis McCorkle filled his coaching staff for 2008 as he announced that Stephanie Sanchez will serve as a graduate assistant for the Rambelles.

Sanchez joins the ASU coaching staff after a stellar playing career under McCorkle at Eastern New Mexico. She logged over 5,500 minutes in goal for the Zias during her four years with the program and was twice named honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference. Sanchez posted a 28-20-3 career record in goal for ENMU with seven career shutouts and a goals against average under 2.00. She was a four-time LSC Player of the Week during her career as well.

“As soon as I was contacted about the ASU job, Stephanie was the first person that came to mind and I knew I wanted to speak with her about the graduate assistant coaching position," McCorkle said.  "Stephanie is exactly the type of person you want as a graduate assistant.  She is reliable and has a terrific work ethic.  One of her primary duties will be to work with our goalkeepers.  Having been a four-year starter for us at ENMU, she brings a wealth of firsthand knowledge directly related to the Lone Star Conference.  Having Stephanie on our staff will help us be a better team.”

Sanchez was also recognized for her efforts in the classroom, earning Academic All-LSC honors as a junior and twice picked to the LSC's Commissioner's Honor Roll. A native of Belen, N.M., she collected her bachelor's degree in psychology from ENMU in 2008 and is currently working toward her master's degree in psychology at ASU.
