Volleyball Wins 20th

The Angelo State volleyball team collected its 20th win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

The 'Belles improved to 20-13 overall, 8-5 in the Lone Star Conference, with a 25-20, 25-15 and 25-15 win over the Savage Storm to register their 17th 20-win season in school history and first since 2004. SOSU saw its season end with a 19-14 record, 5-8 LSC.

The 'Belles were led on offense by Alaina Sivells and Adrienne Taylor with eight kills each while Sivells controlled the defense at the net with a match-high seven total blocks. Cara Turney had seven kills while Kimber Duncan, Brittany McNeal and Tess Brindock had six, five and one kill, respectively. Brindock, playing the final home match of her ASU career, dished out a match-high 29 assists to control the offense.

Lunden Azuara led the Savage Storm with six kills and Lindsay Ellisor dished out 20 assists. Southeastern Oklahoma hit -.043 for the match to ASU's .178, committing 28 errors to the 'Belles 16.

The 'Belles are off until Thursday when they begin play in the Lone Star Conference Championship in Canyon. ASU earned the No. 6-seed in the tournament and will face No. 3-seed Abilene Christian in the first match of the tournament at 12 p.m. All the matches of the tournament can be seen live and free of charge on www.lonestarconference.tv.
