Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington has announced the addition of four student-athletes that will be playing their collegiate volleyball for the 'Belles beginning in 2009.
Emily Booth, a two-time all-district selection from Haltom City, Claire Chomout, a first-team all-district selection from Dripping Springs, Kaitlyn Standard, a two-time all-district selection from San Angelo, and Alexa Williams, a two-time all-district selection from San Antonio, all signed scholarship agreements during the early signing period beginning last Wednesday.
“All four of these young ladies come to us with extensive club volleyball experience and a passion for the game,” Waddington said. “They will bring a lot of talent and excitement to our program in 2009.”
Booth is a 5-9 middle blocker who helped the Haltom Lady Buffs advance to the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs. She was named first team all-district and was selected the Tom Landry FCA Female Athlete of the Year for the Greater Fort Worth area.
Chomout, a 5-9 outside hitter from Dripping Springs High School, led the Tigers in kills in leading them to a perfect district record and berth in the regional quarterfinals. She will be graduating in December and will be attending classes at ASU in the spring 2009 semester.
“I really like how physical both Claire and Emily are as players,” Waddington said. “Their explosiveness off the floor and ability to terminate the ball will help us become a lot more efficient offensively.”
Standard, a 6-0 outside hitter from Central High School, helped the Lady 'Cats to a state playoff appearance in each of her four seasons. She earned an honorable mention selection in 2006 and a second-team all-district in 2007.
“Kaitlyn is one of the best athletes to come through our program in a long time,” Waddington said. “We are really excited to see her make an impact at the next level.”
Williams, a 5-7 libero from MacArthur High School, helped the Lady Brahmas into the postseason in 2007. She was received an honorable mention nod in 2007 and a second-team all-district selection in 2008.
“Alexa is lightning quick on the floor and has the ability to get track down balls that most others cannot get to,” Waddington said. “Her ball control and defense will really help to stabilize our back court next fall.”
The 'Belles finished the 2008 season with a 20-14 record, one more win than the three previous seasons combined, and their first postseason appearance in four years.
