Three members of the Angelo State soccer team were recognized Friday for not only their achievements on the soccer field but also in the classroom as members of the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team.
Senior midfielder
Christian Willman was named to the 12-person first team while sophomore forward
Brandie DeBacker and sophomore defender
Megan Schaffer were named to the second team. By earning first team all-district honors, Willman is now eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
Willman, a native of Houston, leads ASU with five assists and has added two goals for the Rambelles this season. She boasts a 3.92 grade point average in marketing is tied for fourth on ASU's all-time assist list with 15 through her four years with the program. A member of the ASU Honor's Program, Willman is a two-time selection to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named honorable mention All-LSC as a freshman in 2006.
DeBacker is tied for the team lead this season with eight goals after leading the team in scoring as a freshman last fall. The native of New Braunfels has a 3.31 grade point average in mathematics. In her two seasons with the program, DeBacker has scored 15 goals, ranking 10th all-time at ASU as just a sophomore. She was named honorable mention All-LSC as a freshman.
Schaffer is in her second season as a starter on the back line for the Rambelles after earning honorable mention All-LSC honors as a freshman last season. A native of New Braunfels, Schaffer has a 3.70 grade point average while majoring in child learning.
The Rambelles close out the 2009 season Sunday afternoon when they visit Midwestern State. Game time is 3 p.m. in Wichita Falls.
