Netters silence TexAnns

The Angelo State volleyball team picked up its seventh straight conference in Thursday as the 'Belles swept Tarleton State. ASU (17-13, 9-3 LSC) locked up third place in the Lone Star Conference, downing TSU, 25-15, 25-15, 25-13.

ASU had 10 blocks and hit .308 as a team as the 'Belles picked up their third straight over Tarleton State. Senior Alaina Sivells and freshman Claire Chomout each had eight kills while freshman Emily Booth and Caroline Cleveland both contributed seven kills. Freshman Katie Coleman was in on six blocks for the 'Belles while Chomout led ASU with a match-high 12 digs. Freshman setter Alex Woolsey had 23 assists.

The 'Belles set the tone early as ASU scored the first four points of the match en route to the 10-point. Angelo State tallied six blocks in the opening game and hit .212 as a team as the 'Belles dominated TSU in the set. Freshman Katie Coleman was in on five of ASU's six blocks in the set. The TexAnns hit -.056 in the set as they collected just nine kills but had 11 errors in the game.

ASU got a slow start in the second set, actually trailing by two points, 10-8, before taking control of the game. The 'Belles would roll off 11 straight points and score 14 of the last 17 points of the set to cruise to another 10-point win. Senior Alaina Sivells and freshman Caroline Cleveland would each contribute four kills in the set. The 'Belles would hit .355 in the game, compared to just .032 by Tarleton State.

ASU's momentum would carry over into the third set. With the set tied, 5-5, the 'Belles scored nine straight points, and 13 of 15 points, to take control of the final game and complete the sweep. Angelo State would close out the match on a 20-8 team in the dominant 12-point win.

For Tarleton State (9-20, 4-8 LSC) got five kills from three players as the TexAnns were officially eliminated from postseason contention.

The 'Belles close out the regular season Saturday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville. First serve is 2 p.m. at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena as ASU celebrates Senior Day.
