Baseball pinged No. 16

The Angelo State baseball team received another preseason ranking Friday when it was tabbed No. 16 by Ping!Baseball in its 2010 Division II preseason poll.

The Rams, who received a No. 21 ranking by Collegiate Baseball Magazine last month, are one of only two Lone Star Conference schools to be ranked in the polls top 30 schools. Abilene Christian, the 2010 LSC Tournament champions, is two spots ahead of the Rams at No. 14.

Angelo State is also one of four schools from the NCAA Division II South Central Region to appear in the poll. Besides Abilene Christian, Emporia State, who ended the Rams' 2009 season in the South Central regional semifinals, earned a No. 3-ranking while Central Missouri, whom the Rams defeated in game two of the regional, are three spots behind Emporia State with a No. 6-ranking.

The Rams open the 2010 season against the same opponent that they opened the 2009 season with. ASU and Ouachita Baptist will play back to back doubleheaders on Feb. 6-7 with both twin bills beginning at 1 p.m.
