Angelo State graduate assistant volleyball coach Jason Bibler was honored Friday as one of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30.
"Receiving the AVCA's Thirty Under 30 Award is not only a great honor for Jason, but a great honor for our volleyball program," said ASU head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington. "We are extremely proud of him."
Bibler, 28, is in his second season at ASU as a graduate assistant coach. Prior to the 2008 season, he joined the ASU staff from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he spent three years as head volleyball coach.
While at Air Academy, Bibler compiled a 32-31 record and his Kadets qualified for the postseason every year. Along with his duties at AAHS, he also spent four years as a head coach at Colorado Juniors Volleyball Club. His 18's club team qualified for the Junior Olympic Championships at the end of the 2008 season.
Bibler received his bachelor's degree in history and philosophy in 2006 from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He and his wife, Sara, have been married for four years.
Of the thirty recipients of this year's award, 19 are assistant coaches and 11 are head coaches. Nine are NCAA Division II women's coaches, eight are NCAA Division I women's coaches, three are NCAA Division III women's coaches, three coach NCAA men, two are from two-year colleges, two are club coaches and one is a high school girl's coach. Two of the recipients double-up as club coaches. Four of this year's recipients - Giovana Melo, Kelly Morrisroe, George Mulry and J.T. Wenger - also received the inaugural award a year ago, as they have continued to demonstrate excellence in this profession.
The AVCA created this award in 2009 to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. A nomination period was held in the fall, with the requirement that the nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2010. The list of winners was announced in the February/March edition of Coaching Volleyball. For a complete list of honorees, click here.
