Leonhardt grabs hitting honor

Angelo State third baseman Zak Leonhardt was honored by the Lone Star Conference Wednesday by being named the Diamond LSC Hitter of the Week.

Leonhardt, a 6-1 junior from Houston, appeared in all four games at West Texas A&M, helping the Rams to a 3-1 series win, but it was the series finale that Leonhardt had his shining moment. He tied an ASU record with three home runs in the game and recorded six RBI, one short of tying that record. Leonhardt began his onslaught with a grand slam in the first inning to highlight a six-run outburst. He led off the third inning with his second bomb of the game and capped off his day with a solo shot in the fourth which followed Keith Towne's two-run blast. For the week, Leonhardt hit .600 with nine hits in 15 at bats, two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI.

With Leonhardt's honor, four Rams have now been honored by the league. Leonhardt joins teammates Chris Adamson and Jason Morriss as a hitter of the week and Alan Miller who was named the Diamond LSC Pitcher of the Week last week.
