Softball Adds Two in Early Period

Angelo State softball coach Travis Scott announced today that Odessa's Chelsey Walters and Round Rock's Amanda Wilhelm will join the Rambelles for the 2010 season.

Walters, a 5-4 shortstop, is a three-time all-district performer at Odessa High School so far through her prep career, earning District MVP honors as a junior. She was named the Broncho's Offensive MVP each of her three seasons with the program. Walters has sparked OHS to playoff campaigns each of the past three seasons, including a trip to the 5A state semifinals this past spring. She currently plays club ball with the Midland Explosion.

"We are very pleased to have Chelsey joining our program," said Scott.  "She comes from a winning program at Odessa High and plans to continue her winning ways at Angelo State.  Chelsey is a solid shortstop with good footwork and an above average arm.  She has a good approach at the plate with above average speed.  We look forward to great things from Chelsey in the future."

Wilhelm, a 5-4 utility player, picked up all-district and academic all-district each of the past two seasons while at Round Rock High School. She guided the Dragons to the postseason each of the past two seasons and helped RRHS to the district and bi-district title in 2008. Wilhelm currently plays club ball with the Texas Stix.

"Amanda is the type of player that makes a team work," said Scott.  "She has the ability to play two infield spots plus the outfield and play all of them well.  She comes from a good program in the Texas Stix organization.  Amanda is simply a great person that will be an asset to ASU on and off the field."

The Rambelles are coming off of a 48-12 campaign that saw them win the Lone Star Conference championship and host the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament for the second straight season. ASU opens up the 2009 season on Feb. 4 at Incarnate Word.
