Keith Towne pulled to within one home run of the LSC season record with his 22nd home run in game two.

For the second straight day, the Angelo State baseball team (31-15, 24-12 LSC) received complete games from its starters to take the doubleheader from Southwestern Oklahoma (26-18, 20-16 LSC) Saturday at Foster Field.

The Rams saw Joe Key toss his third complete game of the season in the opener as ASU won game one, 3-2 in extra innings, while Sam Janca pitched all seven innings in the nightcap as the Rams run ruled the Bulldogs, 13-3, to sweep the four-game series and pull four games in front of the Bulldogs for third place and two games behind Cameron for second place in the LSC standings. Key and Janca followed up complete games by Kenny Elkind and Michael Gunter Friday to mark the first time in school history that the Rams have registered four straight complete game performances from their starters.

Key tossed nine innings and surrendered two runs on eight hits while striking out nine batters and walking one, his second straight extra-inning complete game, to improve to 3-2 on the year. Janca followed that up with a three run, five hit, performance with six strikeouts and one walk to even his record at 3-3.

SWOSU scored first in its first at bat on back-to-back doubles by Kenny Hare and Tyler Powell to lead off the game. ASU scored in the third on an RBI-single by Trey Carter which plated Austin Lasprilla to even the score at 1-1. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI-single by Ryan Salsbury and looked as though they were going to hold on for the win until Lasprilla beat out a possible game-ending double play in the seventh, allowing Clay Puckett to scoring the tying run and into extra frames. The Rams ended the game in the ninth when pinch runner Christopher Odom, one of eight seniors honored before the game, came home from second on an RBI-single by Travis Lites.

Game two saw the Rams take command in their first at bat with three runs on four hits with Chris Adamson, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, Puckett and Lites each driving in a run. ASU made it 6-0 with three more runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Keith Towne and another RBI-single by Lites. After the Bulldogs got one run back in the sixth on Blake Mounce's second home run of the year, the Rams used small and long ball for four runs in the bottom of the frame as Brian Rasberry squeezed home Lasprilla and Towne cranked out his 22nd home run of the season, a three-run blast in the left field bullpen.

The Bulldogs picked up two runs in the top of the seventh on Morgan Marr's ninth home run of the year to cut the deficit to 10-3 then watched as ASU ended the game due to the mercy rule. Adamson began the game-ending rally with his fifth home run of the season to lead off the inning and Odom ended it with a bases-loaded single to right to score Tony Kostelnik.

The Rams will take a couple of days off before welcoming Incarnate Word to San Angelo Tuesday. The Rams and Cardinals will play one game at Foster Field with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
