Adree Lakey were honored Tuesday as the Lone Star Conference announced its Track and Field Athletes of the Year. Adams picked up female track honors while Lakey was given the female field award.
Adams, a native of Covington, Tenn., became just the second Rambelle to win a national title in the heptathlon last month at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Adams competed in seven events at the national meet after being the top scorer at the LSC Championships in Kingsville early May.
Lakey, a native of Sylvester, was the top point scorer at the NCAA D-II Championships, picking up All-America honors in all four of her throwing disciplines. Lakey became just the second female in NCAA D-II history to earn national titles in three different throwing events as she won the national crown in the shot put. She added a second place finish in the discus, third in the hammer and fourth in the javelin for 29 points at the national meet.
The duo was key in the success of the ASU women's track and field program this season which captured the third LSC title in school history. The Rambelles amassed a meet-record 331 points at the conference meet and placed second at the NCAA D-II Championships, the highest finish in school history.
