Mangrum Named Rams' Assistant Coach

Angelo State head basketball coach Fred Rike announced on Monday the hiring of Kenneth Mangrum as the program's new assistant coach.  Mangrum comes to ASU with over five years of coaching experience, including three seasons under Rike.

A native of Waco, Mangrum joins the ASU staff after spending the past two seasons with Athens High School, including the past year as the Hornet's varsity boys coach.  Additionally, he served three seasons as a graduate assistant coach at the University of North Texas during Rike's stint with the Mean Green.

Mangrum spent his playing days at UNT where he spent his senior season under Rike's tutelage. Upon gaining his bachelor's degree from UNT in 2002, Mangrum worked on the Mean Green coaching staff and served as a kinesiology intructor at UNT until the spring of 2005.  He completed his master's degree in kinesiology from North Texas in 2005.  Mangrum then joined the Athens High School coaching staff in the fall of 2005 and one season later took over the role of head coach.

Mangrum has one daughter, Brianna (5).
