TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Despite a pair of double-figure performances by senior
Camille Perkins and sophomore
Lindsey Mahone, the Angelo State women's basketball team could not pull out a victory over undefeated Northeastern State University as the RiverHawks extended their winning streak to seven games on Monday night in a 67-40 Lone Star Crossover match-up.
Perkins led the 'Belles (4-3) offense with a team-best 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Mahone added 10 points, five boards and a block, while junior
Paige Weishuhn registered five points, four boards, two blocks and a couple of assists.
The Rambelles were held to just 25.4 percent shooting from the floor, 12.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 50 percent shooting from the charity stripe. The RiverHawks (7-0) hit 29-of-56 of their field goals for 51.8 percent shooting and connected on all four of their shots from the free throw line. Northeastern State also held the edge in rebounds with 40 as the 'Belles grabbed 33.
After two early ties, the RiverHawks ran away with the contest taking a 10-point lead (22-12) on a lay-up by Cristy Nitz. NSU continued to tack on points taking a 32-21 lead into the locker room.
The halftime break did not cool off the sharp-shooting RiverHawks as they began the second half on a 10-0 run. The hosts pushed their lead to as many as 32 points (65-33) in the second half as they cruised to a 67-40 victory over the visiting Rambelles.
Jasmine Webb led Northeastern State with 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while Jasmine Wright recorded 10 points, four boards, four assists, one block and one steal. Taylor Lewis contributed seven points, six assists, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal for the RiverHawks.
The Rambelles return to San Angelo to host Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. and East Central on Monday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m. before the winter break. Live stats and live video will be available for both games on AngeloSports.com
