GRANBURY
– Despite less than ideal conditions Angelo State head golf coach Kathleen Price remained upbeat and positive about her team's play after the first round of the Doc Housewright Invitational where the Rambelles sat in a three way tie for 10th place. Angelo State fired a 46-over-334 at the par-72, 5,790 yard Harbor Lakes Country Club, and was six strokes out of sixth place.

“It was a really long day,” Price said. “It was really windy, it had rained here last night. High winds had knocked a tree over on No. 13 – a really big tree. We had some good plays and some things that didn't go our way. We're looking forward to going out again tomorrow and improving, and we're looking at getting better and getting back into the mix.”

Leading the Rambelles after the conclusion of the first day was Krista Czarnecki, who fired a 9-over-81 and is in the top 30, while teammate Courtney Rutledge sits one stroke behind at 10-over-82. Rounding out the team's scoring players was Maury McCormick (+13) and Randee Stegman (+14).

Czarnecki, McCormick, and Rutledge each had a strong front nine as they posted scores of 39, 38, and 39 respectively. Czarnecki and McCormick both had chip-in birdies on hole No. 6 while Rutledge birdied the par-3 No. 1 hole and the par-4 No. 7 hole.

Tournament host Tarleton State led after the first day with a 306 (+18), five strokes better than St. Edwards University (311), while Grand Canyon University was in third with a 24-over par 312. Tarleton State's Carla Cooper was on top of the leader board with a 2-over-74, with St. Edwards' Ryanne Haddow and Grand Canyon's Jacqueline Sneddon tied for second just a single stroke back. The tournament concludes with a second and final round on Tuesday.
