SAN ANGELO –
The Angelo State track and field team proved there's no place like home as both the men and women's teams dominated the overall team competition at the ASU David Noble Relays at the LeGrand Sports Complex over the weekend, while also combining to record 81 total season-best marks, 11 NCAA Division II provisional marks and one automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Angelo State's men's team tallied 190.5 points – 76 more than the closest team, Texas A&M-Kingsville – and the women's team had an even wider margin as the Rambelles collected 235.5 points – 126.5 more than Wayland Baptist, the second-place women's team. Trevor Rodgers joined Tyler Orlando (javelin) and Wade Goode (discus) as automatic qualifiers for nationals when the junior from El Sobrante, Calif., leaped 24-11.75 (7.61m) in the long jump. That mark leads the Lone Star Conference and is the third best jump in the country this season.

Orlando was one of 11 Rams and Belles to post provisional marks in other events during the three-day event when he hit 16-0 (4.88m) in the pole vault. Shane Holmes was the first Ram to post a provisional mark when he won the ASU David Noble Relays Multi-Event Meet with 6,520 total points to improve his previous season-best from the ASU Spring Break Multi-Event Meet. Holmes first decathlon win in four multi-event meets produced the fifth-most points in the country.

Brian Holik also posted a top-5 mark in the nation when he finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.35 seconds and improved his previous provisional mark. Nick Smith provisionally qualified in two events after running a 10.48 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash and a 21.22 in the 200-meter dash. Smith also joined Holik, Ryan Adkins and Trevor Rogers on the 4x100-meter relay team that improved their mark in 40.92 seconds. That was the first of two men's relay teams to qualify, with Holik, Terrence Holland, Robbie Thayer and Isidro Garcia running a season-best 3:10.81. That mark also leads the LSC. Garcia rounded out the men's top performances with a time of 47.71 seconds in the 400-meter dash finals – the top time in the LSC.

On the women's side, Bree Bennett ran a season-best and LSC-leading 13.90 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles. She joined Summer Sutherland (12-2 in the pole vault) and Kim Williams (142-11 in the discus) as three Belles to provisionally qualify. Makayla Myers ran a 12.06 in the finals of the 100-meter dash, just one hundredth of a second off the necessary 12.05 seconds provisional mark.

Next up for Angelo State is a trip to Waco for the Michael Johnson Open (April 23).
