Game 1 Final Stats (.pdf) | Game 2 Final Stats (.pdf)

SAN ANGELO – Tate Allison belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Angelo State over Central Oklahoma by a score of 7-6 in the rubber game of the three-game series after the Rams dropped game one, 13-5. The come-from-behind victory marks the 11th such win for ASU this season.

Allison finished the day going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Zach Cohen also contributed offensively as he turned in a 4-for-5 performance with three runs scored and one run batted in.

In the nightcap, Angelo State (20-18, 14-13 LSC) quickly fell behind 2-0 after Central Oklahoma (14-22, 8-19 LSC) took advantage of an ASU fielding error. However, the Rams were unfazed as they plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game (2-2). Garrett Harris led the inning off with a double to right-center and moved to third on a groundout by Toby Semler. After Ryan Morgan was hit by a pitch, putting runners at the corners with two outs, Zak Leonhardt roped a double into the right-centerfield gap driving in Harris and Morgan.

The Rams took a 3-2 lead the following inning as Cohen singled to the left-side and came around to score on a single by Joseph Leftridge. After Cohen crossed the plate, Leftridge was thrown out at second as he tried to advance on the throw home which ended the inning and the Rams' threat.

UCO would not give up as the Bronchos evened the score in the top of the fourth (3-3) on a single and a double. The Bronchos took their largest lead of the game in the fifth when they plated three runs in the frame on four hits and one error.

Reyna, however, remained cool and collected as he got out of the jam and exited the game after tossing 7.0 innings of work and allowing six runs, four of which were earned, on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out five.

The Bronchos' starter, Jordan Stern, matched Reyna as he hurled 7.0 innings allowing four runs, all earned, on eight hits, while walking one and fanning five. The final run surrendered by Stern came in the seventh as ASU recorded a pair of singles and a double.

Going into the bottom of the eighth and trailing by two (6-4), the Rams' Harris got things going with a base on balls. Kade Kauk, who started the game at third base, came in to pitch and surrendered a single to Semler. With two outs and two on, Allison sent a fastball on a 1-1 count over the leftfield fence for his second homer of the season to give the Rams a 7-6 advantage.

Kauk (0-2) suffered the loss as he pitched 0.2 innings of work and allowed two runs, both earned, on as many hits and struck out a pair.

James Conlee (5-2) collected his fifth win of the season after pitching 2.0 innings without allowing a run. He gave up a pair of hits and fanned one.

Game one started out close as the Bronchos led the Rams, 5-4, after five innings of a scheduled seven inning contest. However, UCO's offense awoke in the sixth inning as the Bronchos tallied three runs in the frame to take an 8-4 lead. Despite ASU's efforts, the Rams could only muster one more run as they headed into the seventh and final inning down, 8-5.

The Bronchos broke the game open in the seventh as they batted around and scored five runs, four of which were earned, in the frame.

UCO reliever Jake Tuck (1-0) earned the win as starter Uriah Fisher only pitched 3.0 innings. Tuck tossed 4.0 innings of work allowing just one earned run on three hits and struck out two.

ASU starter Bren Schuehler (0-4) absorbed the loss as he surrendered five runs, all earned, on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Schuehler walked two and struck out two.

The Rams travel to Portales, N.M., next weekend to take on Lone Star Conference foe Eastern New Mexico in a three-game series beginning Friday, April 15, at 7 p.m. and concluding with a doubleheader Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will be broadcast live on KKSA 1260 by Jeremy Bryant.
