LAWTON, Okla. – The Angelo State golf team finds itself in ninth place following the first round of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate on Monday at the par-72 Fort Sill Golf Course.
Angelo State shot a team total of 320 and is 25 shots back of the tournament leader Tarleton State and Midwestern State which both shot a 295 on Monday. ASU is two strokes ahead of Lone Star Conference foe West Texas A&M and seven ahead of Texas A&M-Kingsville, but is trailing Incarnate Word by two and is19 behind Cameron which is in third place at its home tournament.

“There were tough conditions out there today,” ASU coach Kathleen Price said. “We had to contend with both wind and rain which made our round difficult. The back nine scores reflected the playing conditions. Our ball striking was solid but we have to putt better tomorrow to improve our standings.”

8th place in the tournament started her round with a 37 on the front nine before shooting a 41 to finish out her first day.
Courtney Rutledge and
Abby Bobo each shot 80 on Monday and are in a tie for 42. Rutledge shot 36 on the front before falling back in the field with a 44 on the backside of the course. Bobo shot 40 on both sides.
Elizabeth Chavarria and
Ashley Bartholomew matched each other with 82s and are in 53rd place in the field. Chavarria struggled on the front nine with a 43 but rebounded with a 39 to close out her round.
Central Oklahoma's Taylor Neidy leads the tournament with a 2-under 70, while Tarleton's Jacqueline Lau and Midwestern State's Brenna Moore are in second after shooting par on Monday. The second and final round of the tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
