DENTON – The Angelo State volleyball team lost only its second Lone Star Conference match of the season as Texas Woman's took a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) victory in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
The No. 9 Belles (25-4, 18-2 LSC) had their 12 match win streak snapped and it is the third road loss of the season. TWU (22-6, 15-4) won the first set before Angelo State stormed back for a second set victory. The Pioneers were able to edge out wins in the third and fourth set for the victory.
Maddie Huth led the Belles with 16 kills and
Shelbi Goode chipped in 11 kills.
Shelby Wilt and
Kaelen Valdez both recorded 17 digs to tie for the team lead.
Three Pioneers hit double-digit kills with Viktoija Jablonska being tops with 16. Josie Santos tallied 14 kills with Chole' Tate contributing 10. Morgan Wilson led TWU with 18 digs.
The Belles will now set their focus on the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championships held at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center starting on Thursday. ASU will play the No. 8 seed on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
