Rambelle Softball Signs Three

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team inked three new talented signees for the Fall of 2013 in Jazzmin Arrant , Kelly Johnson and Kenedy Urbany.

“We are excited about the addition of these three athletes,” ASU head coach Travis Scott said. “We feel that this group of athletes will allow us to continue to compete for conference, and regional championships.”

Urbany is a pitcher at O'Connor High School. She was named to the Max Preps first team All-American team as a junior. She is a two-time first team all-district pick and was the district most valuable player last season. The San Antonio Express-News named her the 2011 Player of the Year. Urbany led her team to a runner-up finish in the 5A state playoffs as a sophomore and third place at the 5A state tournament as a junior.

“We are very excited about the addition of Kenedy,” Scott said. “She is a polished pitcher that has great mechanics, movement, and velocity. Kenedy will give ASU a chance to win every outing that she pitches. The fans of Angelo State are really going to enjoy watching this young lady in the circle.  Kenedy was a crucial piece to our recruiting success; therefore, we are thrilled to have her on the dotted line!”

Arrant will transfer from Howard College and be a junior next season. While at Howard College she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region team. She led her team to the Region V league and tournament titles. As a freshman she hit 20 homeruns, stole 13 bases and had a .423 batting average.

“Jazzmin is a dynamic hitter,” Scott said. “She has a ton of bat speed and the ball jumps off of her bat.  She has been a leader at Howard College and is looking forward to having another great season for Coach Raines. She will be a middle of the line-up hitter for us and will be in position to drive in a lot of runs at Angelo State. With the loss of Kacie Easley and Lauren Smith, Jazzmin was a huge signing for us”

Johnson is a catcher/outfielder from Flower Mound Marcus High School. She was named the 2010 offensive player of the year as a freshman on junior varsity and had the top batting average as a sophomore.

“Kelly Johnson is simply a solid player and person.  She has the potential to be a very good hitter at the college level with some power at her disposal.  Kelly is being brought in to do a lot of catching for us, but also can play the outfield at a very high level.  An added bonus is that she has good speed for a catcher.  Kelly will be a positive on the field and within the university as a whole.”
