SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State men's basketball team saw a one-point halftime deficit expand into an 84-76 non-conference defeat to St. Mary's on Saturday in the Rams' final game of the St. Mary's Invitational being played at Bill Greehey Arena.
The Rams (2-2) trailed 29-28 at the half, but the Rattlers (3-1) used a 56 percent shooting performance from the field to earn the victory. ASU made eight 3-pointers in the game (8-of-20) and shot 41.7 percent from the field.
Antonio Dye led the Rams with 18 points, four assists and seven rebounds in the game, while
Chris Talkington added 17 points and also had seven rebounds.
Jovan Austin and
Dakota Rawls each scored 13 points for ASU with
Zach Jones adding eight points and
Ryan Marsh six to the box score.
Kevin Kotzur scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Rattlers, while Moses Sundufu and Isaiah Matthews each scored 16 points. St. Mary's outrebounded the Rams 37-30 in the game.
Angelo State returns to action at 7:30 p.m. (MT) on Wednesday in its Lone Star Conference opener at Eastern New Mexico before hosting West Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday at the Junell Center.
