MAGNOLIA, Ark. –
Quaid McKinnon,
Doug Snover and
Toby Semler had three RBI each to lead the Angelo State baseball team to a 13-7 win over Arkansas-Monticello on Friday at the Mulerider Classic at Goodheart Field.
Angelo State, which has outscored its opponents 55-20 this season, improved to 6-0 going into the day's second game against No. 20 Southern Arkansas. The undefeated record through six games is the program's best start to any season and the Rams are now hitting .377 as a team after 191 at-bats.
The Rams and Weevils (2-1) both had offensive explosions in the first inning with ASU taking a 7-6 lead after one. ASU reliever
James Conlee (1-0) earned the win after coming into the game in the first inning and going five innings for the Rams. Conlee, who was making his third appearance of the season after replacing starter
Michael Lange, struck out three and allowed only three hits after facing 19 UAM batters.
Travis Stavinoha and
Matt Rechkemmer closed out the game for the Rams.
ASU's offense pounded out a season-high 20 hits in the game against the Weevils. McKinnon, who was last week's Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week and is now hitting .591, went 4-for-5 with a double and run scored. Snover, who came into the game without a hit, went 3-for-3 with three RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Andrew LaCombe and
Lee Neumann each added three-hit games for the Rams, while
Brett Parsons went 2-for-2 to go along with getting hit by two pitches.
The Rams had six doubles in the game (Snover, McKinnon, Parsons,
Brett David, Neumann,
Ryan Greer).
