Weatherly Earns LSC Pitcher of Week Honor

LSC Baseball Release, Feb. 15

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State closer Michael Weatherly has earned the Lone Star Conference's Diamond Pitcher of the Week honor after slamming the door on No. 4 St. Mary's by striking out the side in the ninth inning of a 6-5 win and adding five strikeouts in an appearance against Lindenwood last week.

“He has been able to get a lot of strikeouts and work quickly to help us win games,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “He has a great strikeout pitch and we feel very confident with him out there on the mound and the game on the line.”

Weatherly, a junior from Mesquite, has appeared in three games and has 11 strikeouts through 4.4 innings of work in his first season at ASU after transferring from Eastfield College. His earned run average remains at 0.00 and he has allowed only one hit from the 16 batters he has faced.

Weatherly joins pitcher Rick Reyna and infielder Quaid McKinnon as Rams who have been honored by the LSC this season. Angelo State (6-2) returns to action on Friday with a noon doubleheader and a 1 p.m. series finale on Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma (4-0) in Durant, Okla.

On what he wants his teammates and ASU fans to think when he enters the game:
I want them to know that they can count on me and that when I come into the game that the other team is not going to score. I want everyone to be worry free and confident that we are going to get the win.
