SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team had
LaDonn Huckaby tie a career high with 20 points but were unable to win on the road as Texas A&M-Kingsville won 82-71 at Hampton Inn Court.
The Rams (10-15, 3-12) and jumped out to a 6-2 lead over Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-14, 7-10) with all six points coming from Huckaby. The lead was extended to eight at 16-8 on a three by Huckaby. The eight point lead was the largest of the game for the Rams.
The Javelinas battled back with seven three-pointers in the first half. The last one by Reid Wallace that gave Texas A&M-Kingsville a 34-32 halftime lead over the Rams.
Huckaby led the Rams with 16 of his career high 20 points in the first half. A total of eight Angelo State players scored in the first half. Derryl Nash (11) and Ryan Lassard (10) led Texas A&M-Kingsville into the half.
The second half saw Texas A&M-Kingsville cool form the three-point line but the Javelinas shot 54 percent from the field. The Rams fell behind 50-41 at the 13:11 mark as Texas A&M-Kingsville went on a 7-0 run.
Kennen Coleman scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to keep the Rams close.
Joey Lenox hit a three pointer with 2:48 to go to cut the Javelinas lead to nine but the Rams would get no closer.
Ryan Lassard led Texas A&M-Kingsville with 26 points and seven assists.
