KINGSVILLE, Texas – Paige Weishuhn had a game-high 15 points, but the Angelo State women's basketball team tied its longest losing streak of the season as it fell at Texas A&M-Kingsville, 65-54, on Wednesday in Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

Weishuhn broke out of a slump as the senior shot 7-of-11 from the field and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds for Angelo State (11-12, 9-8 Lone Star Conference). Weishuhn had shot only .125 from the field and averaged 3.5 point in her last two games.

Haylee Oliver and Morgan Youngblood joined Weishuhn in double figures with 10 points each, but the Belles could not overcome 22 turnovers as the Javelinas (8-15, 7-10 LSC) had their fourth win in five games.

Angelo State started the game strong with a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the opening half, but soon gave way to the Javelinas and their full court pressure defense.

Texas A&M-Kingsville started to pull away in the latter part of the first half leading by six, 27-21, with nearly two minutes left before the Belles scored two quick buckets before the break.

The Belles remained close with the Javelinas before TAMUK went on a 9-0 run to push its lead to 11, 40-29, at the 14 minute mark.

It seemed that Texas A&M-Kingsville would cruise to victory before the Belles made a furious comeback as they trailed by 11 with 5:40 remaining. The Belles' Leah LeMaire, playing in front of a great number of friends and family near her native Corpus Christi, started the run with four consecutive free throws to cut the Javelinas' lead to seven.

A LeMaire steal led to a Weishuhn layup and the score at 54-49 with 3:49 left to play. After Texas A&M-Kingsville answered on the other end with a jumper, Weishuhn hit a three to put the deficit back to four.

Lauren Holt made a jumper that would bring ASU within two at 56-54, but the Belles would not score again as the Javelinas' Kelly Bastow hit a three on following possession that would lead to a 8-0 run to seal the game for TAMUK.

Angelo State lost its fourth straight game, tying its longest losing streak of the season. The Belles fell to 4-7 overall on the road this year.

Amanda Haven had 14 points for Texas A&M-Kingsville with Inekka Stevenson and Jackie Stanley adding 11 each. Stevenson also had 10 rebounds for the Javelinas.

Angelo State will be back at home on Saturday as they host Incarnate Word. It will be the second annual Pink Treadmill Walk game as the Belles raise money for cancer awareness and research in the Play4Kay Foundation. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
