Rambelles Lead LSC Invitational After Day One

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The No. 18 Angelo State women's track & field team are leading the Lone Star Conference Invitational after day one as the Rambelles took titles in the pentathlon and long jump on Sunday in Lubbock.
 
The Belles started the day with the pentathlon and was well represented placing first, third and fifth place overall.
 
Senior All-American Chrystal Ruiz improved on her season-best pentathlon score in a big way. She scored 3,946 points and move to No. 2 in the NCAA Division II. She won four of the five events on the day and cleared a season best of 5'-8” (1.73M). The high jump mark is a NCAA Division II provisional mark and she sits at No. 8 in the nation.
 
Freshman Jordan Gray had her best day of the season. She scored a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 3,386 and is now No. 16 in the nation. Gray won the shot put event with a mark of 34'- 5.75” (10.51M). She ran a 2:29.40 in the 800M for third and crossed the line in 8.46 in the 55M hurdles. She jumped 17'-6.25” (5.34M) in the long jump and cleared 4'-9.50” (1.46M) in the high jump.
 
Cathryn Rittenberry placed sixth with a score of 3,178 poionts. She was second in the 55M hurdles with her time of 8.42 and second in the long jump with a mark of 17'-7.50” (5.37M). She threw 30'-3.50” (9.23M) in the shot put and cleared 4'-6” (1.37M) in the high jump. She wrapped up the competition with a 2:32.80 in the 800M.
 
Angelo State continued its hot start to the day taking the top three spots in the women's long jump. Ruiz won the event with a NCAA Division II provisional jump of 18'-6” (5.64 M). Theresa Sue earned her first NCAA Division II provisional mark of the season. Sue jumped 18'-2.25” (5.55M) for second place and now sits in the top 35 of the NCAA Division II. Brittany Clarke finished in third with a jump of 17'-11” (5.46)
 
Three Rambelles qualified for the final of the 55M hurdles. Ruiz ran the second-fastest time of 8.18 while Rittenberry (8.48) and Gray (8.66) advanced to the final tomorrow.
 
The final day of competition begins starts at 9 a.m. with the men's heptathlon.
