LSC Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas –
Jake Feckley has been named the D2BaseballNews.com's National Pitcher of the Week and the Lone Star Conference's Diamond Pitcher of the Week after dominating Southeastern Oklahoma State in the first game of the Rams' three-game series sweep last weekend in Durant, Okla.
Feckley, who wore No. 9 in the game instead of his usual No. 20 jersey, earns the award after striking out nine Savage Storm hitters and allowing only two hits in the seven-inning win. He had a perfect game going through the firsts 5.2 innings and held the Savage Storm to a .087 batting average.
"Jake is one of the best competitors you'll ever see out there on the mound," ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. "Any time he's out there on the mound we are going to feel good about our chances. He had all four of his pitches working in that game and was constantly attacking the strike zone."
The two-hit complete game was the first shutout of the season for the Rams and earned the sophomore from Wylie his first victory. A transfer from Texas A&M, he has now struck out 16 batters in three appearances and 13.2 innings of work this season. He possesses a 1.98 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .157 average at the plate.
Feckley follows
Rick Reyna and Michael Weatherly who have received LSC Pitcher of the Week honors this season and
Quaid McKinnon who was the Hitter of the Week after the first weekend of games.
The Rams return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday against Colorado State-Pueblo at Foster Field for the first of four games with the Thunderwolves. This weekend's series will mark the first time the two universities have met on the baseball field. CSU-Pueblo (2-2) is ranked No. 9 in the NCBWA's Central Region poll.
