STARKVILLE, Miss. – After dropping its first two games of the season by just two runs combined, the Angelo State softball team has rattled off eight consecutive wins and jumped to No. 8 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 Poll released on Wednesday.
As a team, the Rambelles (8-2) are hitting .379 and have outscored their opponents 81-41 during the first 10 games. The long ball has been ASU's friend, as the team has already belted 14 home runs this season.
Elsamartina Apo is leading the team in batting average at .600, while
Kacie Easley (.500),
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti (.441) and
Brittney Davis (.421) are all hitting above .400.
In the circle, the Belles are led by a pair of lefties. Mark Kate McKay is 4-0 on the year with a 3.27 earned run average, while
Claire Molina boasts a 4-2 record. The ASU pitching staff is holding its opponents to a .262 batting average.
The Belles will return to the diamond for the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling in Denton from Feb. 24-26. Angelo State opens with Emporia State at noon then Washburn at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
