SAN ANGELO, Texas – Paige Weishuhn tied a career-high with 29 points and grabbed 10 boards in her final home game as the Angelo State women's basketball team defeated Tarleton State, 70-63, on Wednesday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

Weishuhn was 10-of-18 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free throw line as the senior put the Belles (12-13, 10-9 Lone Star Conference) on her back and carried them to a victory over the LSC's No. 1 seed and snapped an overall five-game losing streak.

The performance was a resemblance of last year's final home game as ASU defeated the then 16-ranked TexAnns, 70-57. Camille Perkins scored 25 in that contest in her final home game as a Belle.

Freshman Haylee Oliver added her first career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds as she started in the place of the injured Lauren Holt. Cassi Stegall had 10 points off the bench and knocked down two threes.

Weishuhn had her fifth 20-point performance of the season and her third double-double on the year. She also tied a career-high with four assists, leading the team.

Angelo State started off slow against the TexAnns, trailing by 10 at the 8:25 mark in the first half before the Belles scored 11 unanswered over the next 4:25 to get back in the game and take a 28-27 lead.

Tarleton though would prevent the Belles from scoring again the remainder of the half and went into the locker room with a three-point cushion at 31-28.

After the game was tied at 33-33 all on a Morgan Youngblood 3-pointer with 17:41 left to play, Weishuhn simply took control, scoring or assisting on 10 straight points for the Belles as they took a 43-38 lead over the TexAnns with 14:31 left to play.

Tarleton would tie up the game again at 45-45 apiece, but the Belles would go on 8-0 run with Weishuhn scoring four during the push. ASU lead 53-45 at the 10:10 mark in the second half.

The TexAnns battled back to cut the deficit at one, 60-59, with 2:51 left to play, but Weishuhn hit a jumper as she was fouled on the play. The Wall native hit the free throw and the Belles were never threated after that.

Weishuhn scored 21 points in the second half and left the game with 15 seconds left to a standing ovation from the Stephens Arena crowd, with ASU holding a comfortable 69-61 lead.

Tarleton's Peyton Adamson had 16 points to lead the TexAnns (19-8, 16-3 LSC) followed by sibling Shelby with 15. Kiara Wright added 12 points and a team-leading eight rebounds for Tarleton State.

Angelo State will travel on the road to play Texas A&M-Commerce in its regular season finale. The Belles defeated the Lions earlier this season, 61-50, on Jan. 14 in San Angelo.
