Collegiate Baseball Poll
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State baseball team will go into Lone Star Conference play ranked No. 4 in the nation.
ASU (16-4, 0-0 LSC) did not play last week, but jumped from No. 8 to No. 4 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll which was released on Monday. The Rams will open conference action this weekend with a four-game series at Texas A&M-Kingsville (9-3) at Nolan Ryan Field.
“It's sort of like at the beginning of the season where it was like we were caged up and ready to go pounce on somebody,” ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. “Hopefully it's the same thing now. We have been held back not able to compete and hopefully when we hit it on Friday we'll be ready to go.”
Angelo State, which has outscored their opponents 131-64 this season, also advanced in the CollegeBaseballLineup.com's poll by moving to No. 22 from No. 23. The Rams slipped one spot to No. 21 in D2BaseballNews.com's rankings and are ranked No. 22 in CollegeBaseballLineup.com's poll.
The Collegiate Baseball ranking of No. 4 is the highest ever for the Angelo State baseball team following the previous high from last week at No. 8. The 2009 Rams were ranked No. 9 which was the highest in program history previous to this season. ASU remains the highest ranked Texas team in Collegiate Baseball's poll, while St. Mary's comes in at No. 2 by CollegeBaseballLineup.com and are No. 8 by D2BaseballNews despite the Rams beating the Rattlers on their home field this season and having the same loss total.
