Rams and Belles in Good Position at Spring Break Multi-Event

ANGELO, Texas – Two Rams and a Rambelle are in the top five of the decathlon and heptathlon after the first day of the Spring Break Multi-Event meet held at the LeGrand Sports Complex.
 
Shane Holmes and Stormy Smothers are both in striking distance of first place after the first day. Holmes scored 3,541 points with a solid day in all five events. He ran the fastest time in the 100m at 11.03 and followed it up with a a 50.97 in the 400m. In the field events he had the fourth-best long jump mark at 22'-00.25” (6.71m). He threw 37'-4.50” (11.39m) in the shot put and cleared 5'-8.50” (1.74m).
 
Smothers was able to clear 6'-00” (1.83m) in the high jump was able to jump 20'-11.75” (6.39m) in the long jump. His shot put mark of the second best of the competition with a 39'-3” (11.96m). He crossed the line in 11.45 in the 100m and the fastest time in the 400m with a 49.54.
 
Jordan Gray sits in third place with 2,839 points after day one of the women's heptathlon. The freshman scored big points in the 100m hurdles and the 200m with times of 14.79 and 25.89, respectively. She was able to clear 4'-7.50” (1.41m) and threw the shot put 38'-3.25” (11.66m).
 
Cathryn Rittenberry is in sixth place with 2,674 points and Monica McCafferty is in 10th with 1,932 points. On the men's side Seth Pearson scored 3,393 points and is in seventh while Donald Macarthy is in 8th with 3,350 points.
 
The men's decathlon will be the first event tomorrow with the 110m hurdles at 12 p.m. and the women's heptathlon will begin with the long jump at 1 p.m.
