Ruiz Named Regional Track Athlete of the Year

It is the first regional award for senior

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State's Chrystal Ruiz was named the 2012 NCAA Division II South Central Region Track Athlete of the Year announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Ruiz qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the 400M, high jump and pentathlon. Her pentathlon score of 3,946 points is the third-best mark in Division II this season. She has season best of a 56.00 in the 400M and cleared 5'-8” (1.73m) in the high jump. Ruiz ranks in the top 10 in both the 400M and high jump.

She won the pentathlon at both the GVSU Big Meet and Lone Star Conference Invitational meet while also winning the high jump and 55M hurdles at the LSC Invite.

The senior is a six-time All-American will compete in the NCAA Division II Championship on March 8-9 in Mankato, Minn.
