WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle golf team finished in 13th place in the Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday. The Belles shot a 324 for the tournament, but were five strokes off from finishing in the top ten. The invite was cut to a single round because of rain on Monday.
The course drained enough for competition to resume on Tuesday morning. Reduced to 18-holes, the invitational began with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at the par-72, 6,112-yard Champions Course at Weeks Park
Abby Bobo and
Courtney Rutledge tied for the team-lead with both shooting a 6-over 78. The pair shot very well on the back nine enabling them to finish tied for 24
th.
“Abby was real consistent on the back nine,” head coach Kathleen Price said. “She shot a nice 37 on the back. Courtney was just (steady) like she always is.”
Maury McCormick shot an 82 (+10) while
Ashley Bartholomew and
Krista Czarnecki rounded out the team scores with an 84 and 88, respectively.
Makenzie Stone and
Taylor Griffin competed as individuals with Stone firing an 8-over 80 for the day. Griffin shot an 44 on the front and a 39 after the turn for an 83 (+11).
“We made some good shots, and we are still learning,” Price said. We are learning how to be patient with ourselves. We are trying to get ourselves better, and we need to work hard so we are prepared for Granbury and the conference tournament.”
The Belles were just a stroke behind from tying for 11
th place with St. Mary's and Arkansas-Fort Smith. West Texas A&M won the invite with a total score of 298 (+10), including placing two golfers in the top five. The Lady Buff's Alisa White and Dallas Baptist's Mercedes Rios each shot at even par, but Rios would eventually come out on top in a playoff to win individual medalist standings.
Angelo State will compete next at the Tarleton State Invitational in Granbury on April 19-20.
