No. 9 Rams, Cardinals Split Saturday's LSC Doubleheader

SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 9 Angelo State goes into Sunday's series finale against Incarnate Word with the opportunity to win its fifth series of the season after splitting Saturday's doubleheader (8-3, 3-5) against the Cardinals at Foster Field.

ASU (20-7, 4-3 Lone Star Conference) used a five-run sixth inning in the day's first game for its third consecutive win and 150th all-time at Foster Field. Incarnate Word (8-10, 3-4 LSC) earned the day's split after Jordan Littlefield hit a two-run home run to left field in the top of the seventh to take a 3-all game to its final score.

Michael Weatherly (4-0) earned a one-out win for the Rams after coming into the game in the sixth inning as a reliever for starting pitcher Jake Feckley and Austin Church before the ASU offense exploded for five runs in an inning for the second straight game. Feckley scattered eight hits in his 4.1 innings against UIW, while Church came in for 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Church (2-1) claims the loss in the second game of the day after walking the Cardinals' leadoff hitter in the sixth before Littlefield hit his home run off Weatherly.

Toby Semler and Lee Neumann led the Rams' offense with three hits each in an ASU 10-hit effort in the first game, while Quaid McKinnon had two hits in the second game for the Rams who finished with six.. Neumann had a single, double and triple in the game and has entered the record books with the fourth most triples in a single season –despite this year not being halfway completed.

Semler, Doug Snover, Neumann, Ryan Greer, Brett David, Brett Parsons and Tate Allison each had RBI in the win, while Quaid McKinnon reached base twice on walks. Snover extended his reached base streak to 19 games, but would see it end in the night cap.

ANGELO STATE BASEBALL
James Conlee started the second game and went 4.0 innings before Church came in for two innings, Weatherly for an out and Jake Albert for two outs. Greer had the Rams' offensive highlight by stealing home in the second inning, while Allison made two great catches in right field on defense.

UIW's Marc Gomez (2-0) earned the win for the Cardinals with a complete-game effort. Gomez struck out seven and walked only one as the lefty gave his team's bullpen a chance to rest after being exhausted during the first two games of the series. Lucas Miller and Travis Fuquay each had two hits for the Cardinals in the win, while Derrick Walls, Littlefield and Jason Stone each had multiple hits in their loss.

ASU and UIW conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Foster Field. Michael Lange is scheduled to start for the Rams, while the Cardinals have not released their probable starter.
