Game at San Angelo, Texas | Foster Field | Angelo State wins series 3-1

ANGELO STATE BASEBALL
SAN ANGELO, TexasLee Neumann had three hits and drove in four runs to highlight an Angelo State offensive explosion that resulted in a 12-4 Lone Star Conference win over Incarnate Word on Sunday at Foster Field.

The No. 9 Rams won the series 3-1 (5-2, 8-3, 3-5, 12-4) over the Cardinals (8-11, 3-5 LSC) behind a 16-hit team performance in the finale. ASU (21-7, 5-3) broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning and four-run fifth to give starting pitcher Michael Lange (3-0) plenty of support to earn the win. Lange struck out four and managed through seven UIW hits in 6.0 innings in his fifth start of the season.

Neumann , Quaid McKinnon, Toby Semler, Ryan Greer, Doug Snover and Andrew LaCombe each had multiple hit games for the Rams who will play in a four-game series next weekend at West Texas A&M in Canyon. Angelo State finished the series with a .368 team batting average (43 hits) and held the Cardinals to a .276 average.

Ethan Lutz (3-2) claims the loss for the Cardinals, while Jordan Littlefield, Lucas Miller and Greg Barbaro each had two-hit games on Sunday. UIW briefly held a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning before the Rams started stockpiling runs.

ASU has now won five series this season and are off to a program's best record through 28 games. The Rams are outscoring opponents 174-91 this season and improved to 13-2 at Foster Field this season. The Rams are now 151-59 all-time at Foster Field in program history and improved to 14-9 all-time against the Cardinals.

Player Highlights

Neumann, who now leads the team with 23 RBI and a .368 batting average after hitting .571 in 14 at-bats this weekend, had two singles and a triple in the win. The triple was his fifth of the season and has him in a tie with Nate Hemm (2006) and Jason Morriss (2006) for the second most triples in a single season in program history. Drew Caraway's seven triples in 2007 is the ASU record.
Quaid McKinnon continued to terrorize Cardinal pitchers on Sunday with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and two walks. McKinnon hit .667 in the four-game series, going 8-for-12 with five singles, two doubles and a triple. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz., is hitting .357 for the season with 35 hits and 21 RBI. He led the Rams with five walks against Incarnate Word.
Toby Semler added two hits to the Rams' total on Sunday and raised his season's batting average to .353 by hitting .467 this weekend. Semler, who leads ASU with 36 hits this season, had seven hits in the series against UIW including a sixth-inning double.
Ryan Greer went the opposite way for his first home run of the season in the eighth inning on Sunday. Greer, who is hitting .340 this season, drove in three runs with the home run over the left-field fence and finished the series against the Cardinals with four hits and five RBI. He also went 3-for-3 in stolen bases, including stealing home in Saturday's first game.
Andrew LaCombe added to his team leading streak of reaching base (11) with two hits on Sunday to take his season's average to .325. The junior from Southlake hit .400 for the weekend.
Zach Cohen went 2-for-4 on Sunday and scored two runs. The senior shortstop also had eight defensive assists which ties him with Derek Bockhorn (2006) for fourth all-time in a single game. Bockhorn and Steven Allred (2007) hold the single-game record with 10.
Doug Snover added two hits and an RBI in the 12-4 win and is now hitting .289 for the season.
