SAN ANGELO, Texas –
Quaid McKinnon has been named the Lone Star Conference's Diamond Hitter of the Week for the second time this season after hitting .667 in 12 at-bats last weekend in Angelo State's 3-1 series win over Incarnate Word.

The left-handed hitting junior finished the four-game series with five singles, two doubles, a triple and also reached base five times on walks against the Cardinals. He went 3-for-3 in the 12-4 series finale win after going 3-for-4 in the 5-3 series-opening victory.

No. 7 Angelo State (21-7, 5-3 LSC) will travel to play conference-leading and 22nd-ranked West Texas A&M (18-5, 7-1 LSC) this weekend in Canyon.

McKinnon is now hitting .357 for the season with 35 hits, 21 RBI and a team-leading 28 runs scored in his first season at ASU after transferring in from Paradise Valley Community College.  He has started all 28 games this season at first base and has eight multiple hit game, four multiple RBI games and has had a nine-game hitting streak this season. He has currently reached base in six straight games and has five stolen bases.

McKinnon and Lee Neumann have teamed up to provide a potent middle-of-the-lineup threat for the Rams. Neumann hit .571 last weekend with five RBI and is now leading ASU with a .368 average, nine doubles, five triples, 23 RBI and is tied for the team lead with Tate Allison with three home runs. Neumann's triple total leads the conference and he also tops the LSC in total bases (63).

“They are both swinging the bats great right now,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “They are two different type of hitters and have been really big and are carrying us. We have guys in our lineup who are capable of carrying us, and it's their turn right now. They are doing a great job.”
