Lone Star Conference Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State head coach Kevin Brooks called Lee Neumann an “amazing specimen” at the start of the baseball season. He can now call his center fielder the Lone Star Conference's Diamond Hitter of the Week.

Neumann, a junior transfer from Blinn College, is the fourth Ram to be honored by the conference this season after he had six runs batted in, hit .313 with five hits – including a home run, double, triple and two singles during last week's five-game schedule that saw the Rams improve to 16-4 on the season.

“Lee just continues to get better at the plate every game,” Brooks said. “He is doing a great job with his pitch selection and his approach at the plate. He has worked hard since the day he got here and is seeing the fruits of his labor. Lee never takes a day off and is hitting as well as anyone right now.”

Neumann's biggest hit of last week came when he delivered a three-run home run in Saturday's 7-4 win over Central Oklahoma. ASU had struggled offensively in the day's first game and were sputtering through the second game until Neumann sent a two-out pitch over the left-center field fence at Foster Field.  The home run was his first over-the-fence home run of the season and his second overall after his inside-the-park home run against Colorado State-Pueblo two weeks ago.

“It was a huge hit in a time where we were struggling to put anything together,” Brooks said. “He got in a good hitter's count and didn't miss it to get us three quick runs. That was huge and turned the entire game around.”

Neumann is hitting .333 for the season through his first 66 at-bats. He has two home runs, two triples and a team-leading six doubles. He has also stolen seven bases and has played strong defensively in center field.

Neumann follows Quaid McKinnon who was the Hitter of the Week after the first weekend of games and Rick Reyna, Jake Feckley and Michael Weatherly who have received LSC Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

The 8th-ranked Rams are on a break from games right now and will return to action on March 16 with the start of LSC play at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
