SAN ANGELO, Texas – Six-time All-American Chrystal Ruiz will be donning the Angelo State uniform for the final time this weekend as she will compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Myers Fieldhouse in Mankato, Minn.
The graduate student is entered in three events during the weekend. She will compete in the 400m, high jump and the pentathlon. Ruiz has season bests of 56.00 in the 400m, 5'-8” (1.73m) in the high jump and a score of 3,946 in the pentathlon. She has the third-best score in the NCAA Division II pentathlon this season and was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Track Athlete of the Year for her efforts.
Her performances this season have helped the Rambelles team move to No. 17 according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's rankings.
The Bandera native is no stranger to the NCAA Division II national meet as she was runner-up last season in the pentathlon. The defending NCAA Division II pentathlon champion, Lindsay Lettow of Central Missouri, is also entered in the competition.
Ruiz is a two-time NCAA Division II Champion. She was a member of the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor team championship and a member of the NCAA Division II Outdoor 4x400m relay. She has earned All-American honors in the 400m hurdles (2009, 2010), 4x400m (2010), heptathlon (2010), high jump (2010) and pentathlon (2011).
The first event for Ruiz will be preliminaries of the women's 400m scheduled for 4:50 p.m. on Friday. She will turn around on Saturday and start at 9 a.m. with the start of the pentathlon. The high jump is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. and the women's 400m final is set for 4:20 p.m.
