SAN ANGELO, Texas –  Andrew LaCombe and Brett Parsons each drove in four runs as No. 8 Angelo State overcame a late seven-run deficit to take a 14-13 Lone Star Conference win over Tarleton State at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.

Angelo State (28-11, 12-5 LSC) made its largest comeback of the season in the game to beat the Texans (15-17, 7-10 LSC) and overtake West Texas A&M for sole possession of first place in the conference after the Buffs (11-6 LSC) fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday night. Parsons and Lee Neumann led ASU with three hits each as the Rams pounded out 16 hits and scored in double figures for the seventh time this season. Doug Snover scored the game's winning run after leading off the top of the ninth with a bunt single and then came home on a wild pitch.

“It was good to see our offense win us a game,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “We needed to get this win and I'm really proud of our guys for not giving up.”

The Rams, who were down 13-6 going into the seventh inning, exploded for seven runs to tie the game at 13. LaCombe ended the inning's production with a three-run home run to left field after Parsons hit a two-run single to cut the Rams' deficit to the three. Like ASU, Tarleton State's trouble started with wild pitching as the inning started with Tate Allison being hit by a pitch and Zach Cohen walking. Toby Semler and Doug Snover each added RBI singles in the inning.

“We felt like if Tate and Cohen could get on it was a good possibility that we could get something going," Brooks said. "It was really good to see them get it started and our guys get things going with two outs. It was a huge inning with huge hits from a lot of the guys.”

Michael Weatherly (5-0) earned the win after pitching three innings of one hit baseball. The junior right-hander from Mesquite struck out two and pitched with the Rams tied at 13 for two innings before slamming the door in the ninth with a one-run lead.

“We had to put zeros up and he did a great job of that,” Brooks said. “He just did what he does, he didn't let runs to score. He finds a way to get us out of innings.”

Neumann, who had a single, double and triple in the game, now has six triples this season which gives him the conference lead and puts him second all-time in ASU history for a single season behind Drew Caraway's seven in 2007. LaCombe's home run was his third of the season, while Parsons established a single-game high with his four-RBI total. Semler extended his hitting streak to seven games and is currently second in the conference with 52 hits.

Rick Reyna received a no-decision after going 3.2 innings in his 10th start of the season. Reyna surrendered six runs on seven hits and six walks.

The Rams and Texans return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a doubleheader before concluding the series with a single game starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
