SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State head golf coach Kathleen Price announced on Friday the signing of Elizabeth Chavarria from Sonora High School to a national letter of intent.
Chavarria, rated as the No. 3 golfer in Class 2A according to HighSchoolGolfScoreboard.com, was a four-year letter winner at Sonora where she is the defending two-time state and regional champion and a three-time district champion.
Chavarria has competed in the Starburst Junior Golf Classic for three years finishing in the top 20 in every appearance amongst some of the state's top golfers. She has also participated in the West Texas Junior Champions Tour throughout her career winning over 20 tournaments and earning the WTJC Golfer of the Year in 2011.
Recently Chavarria was the San Angelo Invitational Champion this past February and is quite familiar with the ASU golf program, having worked Rambelles volunteer assistant coach
Jimmy Tidwell at Bentwood Country Club.
“This gal knows how to win,” Price said. “She won the regional and Texas 2A State Championship as a sophomore and junior.
“I love her ball striking skills and her even temperament on the golf course. I know she will fit into our program, and I expect Liz to be a great asset at ASU.”
Chavarria is the lone signee for the Rambelles, who will compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships on Monday, April 16.
