LSC Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State junior
Lee Neumann has been named the Lone Star Conference Diamond Hitter of the Week for the second time this season after compiling 12 hits in 16 at-bats last weekend in the Rams' series split at Tarleton State.
“I was just trying to go back to the little things and concentrate on squaring balls up,” Neumann said. “I think when I do struggle at the plate that it's because I'm trying to just hit balls hard. When I square it up I'm a pretty good hitter. My confidence at the plate is through the roof right now.”
Neumann, a transfer from Blinn College who played his high school baseball at Brenham High, hit .750 during the weekend to raise his season's batting average to a team-leading .378 mark. He also leads the Rams with 45 runs score, 13 doubles, seven triples, 33 runs batted in, 98 total bases and a .662 slugging percentage.
“He has continued to get quality at-bats and continues to get better and better and is hitting balls where they are pitched,” ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. “Hopefully he can continue that. I don't know if he can continue to hit .750 but that sure would be nice if he did.”
ASU's center fielder leads the LSC with 45 runs scored, seven triples, 98 total bases and is fifth in home runs and RBI and fourth in stolen bases. He is second with 56 hits behind Angelo State's
Toby Semler who leads the conference with 57 hits.
Neumann and the Rams return to action this weekend with a four-game series against Cameron at Foster Field in San Angelo. The series begins with a 6:30 p.m. game on Friday, continues with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday. Neumann is hitting .403 with three home runs, four triples, 22 RBI and has helped lead the Rams to a 17-3 record at Foster Field.
Neumann's Supporting Superlatives:
-
Has not committed an error in center field in 42 starts
-
Has 81 putouts and one assist in center field
-
Has stolen 15 bases on 21 attempts
-
Was also honored with the LSC Hitter of the Week Honor on March 6

That's pretty good. He has been getting better and better as the season has gone on. He had a great approach this weekend and had consistent good at-bats.
