TROPHY CLUB, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelles golf team shot a 311 (+23) in the second and final round at the Firestone Lone Star Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon. The Belles shaved seven strokes off their first day totals and finished the tournament tied for fourth place at the par-72, 5,900-yard course at the Trophy Club Golf Club.
Courtney Rutledge held steady in the top ten as she shot a 151 total for the championships. The sophomore was one-under par at the turn and finished the day with a 7-over 77. The Monahans native concluded the year with two top ten standings on the season, both coming this spring.
“I was not really surprise to see
Courtney Rutledge perform well today,” head coach Kathleen Price said. “Courtney is Courtney.”
The Rambelles second round score of 311 ties for the second lowest 18-hole score the program has shot in the LSC Championships.
Three Belles improved on their first day scores with
Abby Bobo,
Krista Czarnecki and
Maury McCormick all shaving at least one stroke from yesterday's totals. Bobo finished her first ever LSC Championship with a 7-over 77 on the afternoon and was second on the team with a 157 total and was tied for 15
th place overall.
Czarnecki has the biggest jump as she improved by six shots by firing a team best 76 (+4) on Tuesday and was a stroke behind Bobo with a 158 total in the 36-hole tournament.
McCormick and
Taylor Griffin had totals of 163 and 164 respectively for the championships for ASU.
Tarleton State won its fifth straight Lone Star Conference title after shooting a 597 for the tournament, beating out its closest competitor, Midwestern State by 16 strokes. Incarnate Word's Flower Castillo won individual medalist honors after shooting even par for the championship.
The Rambelles conclude their regular season, but the future is looking bright for the young squad that had only three upperclassmen among its regulars, all juniors as every major player is set to return for next season.
“I'm excited,” Price said. “I'm anxious to see how hard they want to work this summer. We'll have high expectations and Jimmy (Tidwell) and I will sit down and talk with them with what they need to work on.”
