Angelo State Rams
The No. 18 Rams are led by
Kevin Brooks who is in his eighth season and has guided the program to 294 wins coming into this weekend's series against Cameron University. Brooks, who played his college baseball at Baylor, is approaching his 300th win as a head coach and has 14 of those wins against Cameron in 27 games played.
The Rams enter their sixth conference series of the season tied with West Texas A&M atop the LSC standings. ASU has outscored its opponents 401-352 this year and are hitting .310 as a team after hitting .397 last weekend at Tarleton State. The team has 83 doubles, 17 triples and 24 home runs this season and has a .404 on-base percentage. ASU leads the conference with 85 stolen bases and 68 hit-by-pitches.
Lee Neumann, the reigning LSC Hitter of the Week, has a .378 average, 13 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 33 RBI. The junior from Brenham had three hits in all four games last weekend at Tarleton State and leads the conference with 45 runs scored, 98 total bases and his triples total.
Toby Semler, a senior from Mansfield, leads ASU and the LSC with 57 hits and is tied with Neumann with 13 doubles for the team lead. Semler, who brings an 11-game hitting streak into Friday's game, also has scored 25 runs and has 28 RBI.
Ryan Greer leads the Rams and the conference with 23 stolen bases, and is also hitting .343 with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and leads ASU with 35 RBI in his junior season.
Brett Parsons had nine hits last week at Tarleton State and has raised his batting average to .351 after back-to-back strong conference series. Parsons has three home runs, six doubles and hit his first triple of the season last weekend.
Andrew LaCombe is hitting .341 through his first 123 at-bats and has eight doubles and three home runs, while
Quaid McKinnon (.313) and
Doug Snover (.303) each have 10 doubles and account for the final eight Rams hitting over .300 this season.
Michael Lange (5-0) has been moved to the Game 1 starter this weekend. Lange will be making his ninth start of the season and has struck out 31 in 41.2 innings this season. Lange has only allowed nine walks this year.
Jake Feckley (5-2) is expected to start Saturday's first game and has struck out 45 in 55.2 innings, while
Rick Reyna (4-4) gets the start in the nightcap. Reyna leads ASU with 51 strikeouts this season, while
James Conlee (4-1) starts the finale on Sunday. Conlee earned the win last Sunday against Tarleton, and will be making his ninth start and 12th appearance. Conlee, a junior from Georgetown, did not walk a batter in 7.0 innings of work last weekend.
Cameron University Aggies
The Aggies are led by Todd Holland who is in his ninth season and is coaching Cameron following a playing career in Lawton where he hit over .400. Holland is a Minnesota native, like ASU assistant
John Anderson, and still holds the CU single-season records of 80 hits and 25 doubles.
Cameron was picked to finish third in the LSC preseason poll and enters this weekend with a 9-11 LSC record. The Aggies are hitting .298 as team, with 78 doubles, eight triples and 13 home runs. CU has also drawn 140 walks and has been hit by 34 pitches. The pitching staff maintains a 5.90 ERA through 318.2 innings this season. He staff has 200 strikeouts and 150 walks.
Brad Blumer leads the Aggies with a .357 average through his first 143 at-bats of his sophomore season. Blumer, who is also a Minnesota native, has 51 hits and 23 RBI this season. Thomas Galvin Is hitting .356 with 21 hits, while Taylor Lyons is hitting .340 with 21 hits and a team-leading four home runs. Lyons is a senior outfielder from Utah who leads the team with 40 runs. Josh Dawson (.319), Nick Smith (.319) and Andrew Garcia (.300) represent the six Aggies hitting over the .300 line after the teams' first 42 games.
James Rhodes (6-3) and Clay Vanderlaan (5-3) lead the pitching staff coming into the weekend. Rhodes, a right-handed senior from Weatherford, has 54 strikeouts through 56.1 innings and a 3.36 ERA after 13 appearances. He has started six games this season. Vanderlaan, who started his career at Michigan State, is a right handed pitcher from Houston. He has struck out 51, walked 36 and given up 62 hits through 60.2 innings this season. Aaron Kleekamp, a right-hander from Missouri, leads the Aggies with four saves.
Cameron is 4-2 in extra-inning games this season and are 6-5 in one-run games. Opponents have outscored CU 257-241.
