SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State's
Ryan Greer hit two home runs and drove in four runs to highlight a 12-3 series finale win over Abilene Christian on Sunday to complete four-game sweep at Foster Field.
No. 15 Angelo State (36-14, 20-8 Lone Star Conference) finished the series by outscoring the Wildcats 46-7 and swept ACU for the second consecutive season. The Rams, who hit .466 as a team against Abilene Christian (24-26, 11-17 LSC), conclude the regular season having not lost a single series and earning five series sweeps this year. ASU, which clinched the LSC championship on Saturday, will go into the LSC Baseball Championship as the top seed and will play the sixth-seed, Abilene Christian, at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
“We've been saying for a long time that we are a good hitting team, so it's really good to see these last three weeks that we are really getting going consistently,” ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. “We can be a scary offense and maybe that's happening at the right time of the year. I know I hope we start hitting even better.”
Greer, a junior from Arizona, finished the four-game series with 12 RBI and now leads the Rams in that category with 52 this season. His two home runs on Sunday takes his season's total to six, putting him in a tie with teammate
Lee Neumann.
“They were throwing me away with fastballs and coming in with change ups,” said Greer, who leads the conference with 26 stolen bases and finished the regular season with a .355 batting average. “I was lucky enough to put the bat on the ball and drive in some runs.”
Doug Snover added three hits in the game, while
Quaid McKinnon had a double, triple and three RBI.
Toby Semler added three RBI with two of them coming on an eighth-inning home run to left-center field.
Brett Parsons hit his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning with McKinnon on base. The Rams finished the game with 12 hits and five walks.
Jake Albert (1-2) earned his first win of the season after coming into the game in relief of starter
James Conlee in the sixth inning with the game tied at 3-3. Albert, a sophomore from Conroe, struck out two and didn't allow a hit in 2.2 inning of work. Michael Weatherly also spent some time on the mound for the Rams, a night after striking out the final batter in ASU's conference-clinching win. Conlee, a junior from Georgetown, stuck out two and didn't walk a batter after the game's leadoff hitter in 5.1 innings.
Aaron Lambrix (3-5) claims the loss for the Wildcats after going 5.0 innings against the surging Rams. Chuck Duarte led the Wildcats at the plate with three hits, while Duncan Blades added two more.

Additional Quotes
Kevin Brooks // ASU head coach
On Ryan Greer's performance against Abilene Christian:
He's pretty good. He's been amazing all year at getting huge hits for the team. He's a little dude, but he has tons of power.
On the Rams completing the sweep a day after winning the conference championship:
One of the hardest things to do is to handle success. Theoretically, this game really meant nothing to us in the big picture. That's really encouraging for us to still come out and have a great game to complete the sweep.
Ryan Greer // ASU junior left fielder
On playing in the Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship next week:
We have to stay focused and not take any day of practice lightly. They are going to want to come back here and beat us in the tournament so we have to be prepared for them. It's crucial for us to continue our focus every time we have an opportunity to practice and then when we play games.
