Rambelles Have Strong First Day

Day two will begin with the decathlon at 1 p.m.

SAN ANGELO, Texas –
The Angelo State Rambelles opened up the Angelo State/David Noble Relays with solid starts in the heptathlon after one day of competition at the LeGrand Sports Complex.
 
The three Rambelles competing in the Angelo State/David Noble Relays heptathlon are all ahead of their score they hit after the first day of the Spring Break Multi-Event hosted in March.
 
Jordan Gray sits in third place after day one with a score of 2,918. Out of the four events, Gray was able to improve on three. She ran a 14.77 in the 100-meter hurdles and 25.17 in the 200-meters. The freshman improved an inch in the high jump by clearing 4'-9.50” (1.46m). The only event she failed to improve in was the shot put but she still had a solid mark of 37'-10.75” (11.55m).
 
Cathryn Rittenberry is 147 points ahead of her first score as she is in fourth place with 2,821 points. Her big improvement came in the high jump as she cleared 4'-9.50” (1.46m) after only making 4'-5” (1.35m) at the Spring Break Multi-Event. She recorded a 14.38 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 26.17 in the 200-meter. She also threw the shot put 33'-2” (10.11m).
 
Monica McCafferty is 500 points ahead of her first heptathlon score. She was unable to finish the hurdles in the first event and today ran a 17.31 in the 100-meter hurdles. She ran 27.13 in the 200-meter after clearing 5'-3.25” (1.61m). She recorded a mark of 27'-5.25” (8.36m) in the shot put. The freshman is currently in sixth place.
 
Two former Angelo State All-Americans are leading the women's heptathlon. Aisha Adams leads with a score of 3,420 points and Chrystal Ruiz is in second with a score of 3,221.
 
Donald Macarthy was the lone Ram competing in the decathlon. He scored 2,621 points on the first day which is below what he scored at the Spring Break Multi Event.
 
His first three events have him in solid position. He ran an 11.60 in the 100-meters threw the shot put 34'-5.75” (10.51m). Macarthy picked up 626 points in the long jump with a mark of 20'-3.50” (6.18m) before failing to clear a bar in the high jump. The sophomore rebounded with a 51.49 in the 400-meters to end the day and sits in 10th overall.
 
The decathlon will begin tomorrow at 1 p.m. with the heptathlon starting at 2 p.m. at the LeGrand Sports Complex.
