She brought home two gold medals and a silver

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State graduate student Chrystal Ruiz won two gold medals and a silver at the 2012 Mexican Olympic Trials this past weekend.

Ruiz won her first gold medal on Saturday by taking the heptathlon title. She scored 5,282 points which is just short of her national record of 5,346 points set back in October.

Her second medal of the trials came in the 100-meter hurdles after running a 14.11 and finishing in second place. The graduate student's third medal was a gold that came in the 4x400-meter relay.

Ruiz will now be after the Olympic B standard in the heptathlon of 5,950 points. If she is a picked for the 4x400-meter relay pool the relay must have one of the 16 fastest times in the world.
